Veterans largest service organization in the nation. Veterans organization chartered by the United States Congress in 1919, it provides support for veterans and their families. Recognizes members for their selfless service as a wartime veteran. Instrumental in the creation of the Veterans Administration and is universally recognized as the originator of the GI Bill of Rights. Works to maintain the rights and benefits earned by veterans through military service country. Deeply involved with community activities ranging from hospital services and blood drives to youth programs such as the Boy Scouts, American Legion Baseball, scholarships, Junior Shooting Sports and the annual American Legion Boys State and Boys Nation programs.
